Welcome Address by Organising Chair
AUGUSTINE TEE, MBBS, FAMS, FCCP, FRCP (Edin & Glasg)
Organising Chair, iSRRS 2019
The implementation of Rapid Response or Medical Emergency Teams has saved many lives in hospitals around the world since its first appearance in the 1990s. Early recognition and prompt appropriate response to clinical deterioration is the most effective strategy in avoiding preventable cardiac arrests in hospitalised patients. Rapid response systems (RRS) address this and is a maturing feature in many hospitals in Australia, Europe and America. In Asia, it is still a relatively new concept.
The International Society for Rapid Response Systems is its leading worldwide advocate, and Singapore is honoured to host the 15th International Conference on Rapid Response Systems & Medical Emergency Teams (iSRRS 2019). This annual meeting brings together leading international experts in RRS to share their experience, current evidence and vision for the future in improving outcomes of hospitalisation. Clinicians involved in acute care from intensive care medicine, acute medicine, emergency medicine and palliative care will gain much insight from a variety of oral and poster presentations. Academics and healthcare administrators interested in patient safety and quality of care will find the discussions both refreshing and relevant. Industry partners may discover new roles for healthcare technology in RRS, leveraging on the use of artificial intelligence, big data and many other means.
As a bonus to our delegates, iSRRS 2019 is also a pre-forum of the 6th SG-ANZICS Asia Pacific Intensive Care, Asia’s leading annual Intensive Care meeting. I am sure that this mutually beneficial arrangement helps to create more opportunities for the intensive care medicine audience to experience iSRRS 2019, and vice versa.
To our friends who will be visiting Singapore for the first time, may I extend our warmest welcome to our sunny island nation. I am confident that you will find exciting destinations to visit, shopping sprees to satisfy and tasty treats for the palate. On behalf of the organising committee, I look forward to meeting you in Singapore at iSRRS 2019.
